NEST® GLOSSARY

This stands for Content Delivery Network. A CDN is fundamentally a network of servers distributed across various geographical locations, spread out around the world. The purpose of websites and services then using a CDN for their content is so that they expedite the users’ speed, because the data / content is physically closer to their location therefore reducing the latency and/or required delivery time. The CDN also works to prevent say a website from crashing in the event of a high traffic surge, as traffic could be diverted or re-directed to another ‘host’ of the content. Today many websites and services with significant traffic (visitors or engagement), make use CDNs. Daniel Lewin is credited as being the inventor of this solution.
